Michael & Alice

A former Middlesbrough F.C. footballer, Mr Michael Murphy and his wife Alice nee Ranson, who recently celebrated their Golden Wedding were on Sunday presented with a money voucher by the Dormans Warrenby Athletic Club at Warrenby. A native of the Village, 75 year old Mr Murphy became one of the original playing members of the borough when he signed for them as an outside left in May 1899. It was the clubs first season as a proffesional club, when they used to play on the old Linthorpe road ground, Middlesbrpugh as members of the second division. Then after playing for only 2 seasons for Middlesbrough 1899 - 1900 and 1900 - 1901 Mick Murphy recieved a rather severe ankle injury whih forced him to leave the game. As part-time player, he worked full time at Dorman Long and Co until his retirement five years ago. Now living at 6 Teal Street, Warrenby, Mr Murphy and his 74 year old Skelton born wife Alice have one daughter, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. (The Cleveland Standard 1952) Michael Murphy & Alice nee Ranson were married at the Sacred Heart Church, Redcar. 29 November 1902. contributed to the site by Alison Small
